North run at Babe Ruth tournament comes to a halt

It was great while it lasted, but the Midcoast North 15 year old Babe Ruth team run at the state championship came to a halt Sunday with an 8-3 loss to Portland at Deering Oaks in Portland. The North finished 2-2 and in third place in the State Championship Tournament.

Midcoast North was up 2-0 until the top of the fourth inning with Connor Hart throwing a no-hitter through 3 2/3 innings retiring 11 straight batters until Volger reached on an error with two outs and then Reichert hit a 2-run homer to tie the game. Hart then pitched the fifth and gave up one more run leaving the game down 3-2. The North used three other pitchers for the sixth and seventh innings and gave up five more runs on walks and errors.

Connor Hart took the loss pitching five innings and allowing three runs on three hits. Taylor Hall pitched to four batters in the 6th inning recording 0 outs allowing three runs on two hits and three walks. Tyler Prescott pitched 1 1/3 innings allowing two runs on two walks. Scott Kulikowski pitched the final two-thirds of an inning allowing just one hit.

Dean pitched seven innings for Portland allowing three runs on seven hits and no walks while striking out five.

Hitting for Midcoast North were, Adam Carlsen (single), Connor Hart (single, run), Taylor Hall (2 singles, run), Scott Kulikowski (single, 2 RBIs, run), Greg Clark (single, RBI), and Tyler Prescott (double).

For Portland, Boyce (single, 2 runs), Volger (3 runs), Reichert (home run, 2 RBIs, 3 runs), Dean (2 RBIs), Fraser (3 singles, 2 RBIs, run), and Powers (single, 2 RBIs).

Portland and Westbrook will now face off Monday night for the championship with Portland needing to beat Westbrook twice.
