Bangor East, Camden-Rockport victorious in 11-12 State

Sunday afternoon Ryan Moore doubled three times and scored three runs and Ryan Brookings struck out 10 in four plus innings to help District 3 Bangor East roll to a 7-4 win over District 4 South Berwick, while in the late game Teddy Laurita ripped a three run home run in a five run second inning as District 2 Camden-Rockport hung on for a 6-3 victory over District 1 Ellsworth at VFW Field in Hampden during the 11-12 baseball State Tournament.

In the first game, Bangor East plated four runs in the first inning on a double by Moore, two walks, and RBI single by Nick Moore, and a South Berwick error for a 4-0 lead. Leading 5-3 in the top of the fourth, Bangor scored two runs on RBI singles by N. Moore and Ben Crichton for a 7-3 lead.

Single runs for South Berwick in the second and third innings came on solo home runs by Jeremy Jacques and Parker Williams.

Hitting for Bangor was Ryan Moore (three double, three runs scored), Nick Moore (two singles, two RBIs), Joey Moir (single, RBI), Crichton (single, RBI),and Carson Atherly (single).

Ryan Brookings was the winning pitcher, going 4.2 innings and striking out 10. Tyler Mallory-MacDonald earned a save from the mound pitching 1.1 innings and striking out two. He did not allow a hit or run, and he did not walk a batter.

Williams and Jacques each had a home run and an RBI for South Berwick. Other hitters included Patrick Fallon (single, two RBIs), Ryan O’Neil (double), Jake Lebel (double), and Chris April (single).

Bangor East scored seven runs on eight hits and committed one error. South Berwick plated four runs on six hits and made two errors.

In the late game, Camden-Rockport took a 1-0 lead in the first inning then plated five runs in the second inning. Laurita smashed a three run homer to straight away center field to give C-R a 6-0 lead.

Ellsworth relief pitchers Nick Bagley, Alex Braley, and Connor Maguire held Camden-Rockport scoreless over the final four innings and allowed just two singles, but Ellsworth could only manage to plate three runs of their own on RBI singles by Cooper Henderson and Ben Lee in the second inning and Bagley in the third inning.

Hitting for Camden-Rockport was Laurita (home run, three RBIs), Ryan Pierce (two singles), Kyle Crans (double), and Andrew Hall (single).

Laurita picked up the win on the mound for Camden-Rockport pitching 3.1 innings and striking out three. Kienan Brown was outstanding in relief to earn the save. Brown pitched the final 2.2 innings striking out six. He did not give up a hit or run, and did not walk a batter.

Batting for Ellsworth was Hank Vinall (double, single), Bagley (two singles, RBI), Henderson and Lee (single, RBI), Braley (single), Jason Crossman (single), and Zach McGraw (single).

Camden-Rockport had six runs on five hits and committed one error. Ellsworth scored three runs on nine hits and did not make an error.

Bangor East and Camden-Rockport will face each other on Tuesday, July b27 at 3:00 p.m. The winner of that game will move into the championship round.

Other scheduled games are District 5 Dirigo vs District 1 Ellsworth at 3:00 p.m. Monday, July 26. District 4 South Berwick plays District 6 Cumberland at 5:30 on Monday. Both games are elimination games, and the two winners will face each other at 5:30 on Tuesday.
