FARMINGTON – Ethan Kyes knocked down a game high 16 points to lead top ranked Villanova to a 52-46 win over Duke in the championship game of the Farmington Recreation, High School basketball play-offs, Monday night in the Farmington Community Center. Teammate Dylan Stinchfield added 11 points in the victory.
No. 2 ranked Duke (6-5) featured balanced scoring paced by Nate Howard and Cody Austin scoring nine points each. Jon Reis added eight, AJ Larrabee and Jordan Williams chipped in with seven apiece, Clint Orcutt had four and John Gregoire two.
Villanova (10-1) had plenty of support on the offensive for Kyes and Stinchfield iwth Griffin Conlogue and Bradley Jackson scoring eight points each, Jimmy Neal tossed in five, and Marlie Mochamer and Tash Doughty two each.
In the consolation game, No. 3 Kansas (4-7) defeated No. 4 Texas (2-9), 66-56. The Jayhawks were led by Dan York’s game-high 24 points, Alec Wallace contributed 15, while Nick Watson and Matt Swartz added eight each, Lucien Langlois had seven and Nate Watson four.
Matt Davis and Dylan Eustis notched 14 apiece to pace the Longhorns. Matt Crowley scored 12, Jacob Hartford and Matt St. John six, and Derek Hoyt and Nick Hart, two.
During an awards presentation, Mochamer was recognized as the girls Hoop Golf champion and Conlogue and York tied for honors in the boys’ catergory. In the 3-point contest, Mochamer topped the girls’ and Jimmy Neal was victorious for the boys.
