High School round up Dec. 20

The Mount View boys basketball team picked up its fourth win in a row after losing their season opener with a 61-44 win over visiting rival Belfast Friday, Dec. 18 in Thorndike. Also on Friday night the Georges Valley boys team got handed a 40-point loss (83-43) by visiting Mountain Valley of Rumford.

Mount View 61, Belfast 44… the Mustangs won their fourth game in a row since losing the season opener to Camden Hills by defeating rival Belfast at home Friday.

Mount View jumped out to a 19-6 first quarter lead and never looked back as they took a 38-18 half time lead and finished the third quarter up 20 points 51-31.

Scoring for the Mustangs were, Zach Babin with 13 points; Colby Blanchard 12; Michael Cochrane nine; Dylan Keller five; Tim Alton, Tyler Rednour and Eric Neally four each; Jason Hughes three; Bobby Porter and Justin Hodgena two each; and Alic Albright one. The Mustangs were 18-of-27 from the foul line.

For Belfast, Jack Davis led all scorers with 19; Derrick Bernosky seven; Dylan Webster six; Eric Mitchell five; Brad Reed, Josh Beal and Dustin Howes two each; and Scott Kulikowski one. The Lions were 5-of-14 from the charity stripe.

The Mustangs will host Lincoln Academy Monday, Dec. 21 in Thorndike in their last game before the Christmas holiday. Belfast will host Medomak Valley on Tuesday, Dec, 22 fr their pre-holiday finale.

Mountain Valley 83, Georges Valley 43… The Falcons came to play Friday as they invaded the home of the Buccaneers and left with a statement win defeating the Bucs by a 40-point margin.

The Falcons took a 28-14 first quarter lead and the rest as they say is history. Leading 49-23 at the half they increased the lead to 67-35 at the end of the third before cruising through the final stanza.

Scoring for Mountain Valley were, Cameron Kaubris with 14 points; Jacob Arsenault 10; Chris Day and Brady Fergoia eight each; Jon Benjamin seven; Derek Volkernick, Isaac Roberts and Cole Clark six each; Ryan Laubauskas five; Jacob Teriault four; Zach Radcliffe and Adam Bedard three; Izaak Mills two; and Ryan Nicols one. Every player on the roster contributed to this win offensively. The Falcons were 22-of-43 (51 percent) from the foul line. They had seven 3-pointers, two from Day and one each from Volkernick, Arsenault, Roberts, Benjamin and Theriault.

For Georges Valley, Logan Cross had 10 points; Alex Grierson and Frankie Colletti six each; Alec Young five; Dylan Maloney and Dustin LaVoie four each; Robbie Beverage and Daniel Arsenault three each; and Dean Cline two. The Buccaneers were 8-of-25 (32 percent) from the foul line. they had three 3-pointers,two from Cross and one from Beverage.

Georges Valley will travel to Boothbay Monday, Dec. 21, while Mountain Valley will host Livermore Falls the same day.
