Garrett Beal led three players in double digits as the Jonesport-Beals Royals overcame a first quarter deficit by out scoring Bangor Christian 61-30 over the final three quarters for a win in the first of two varsity games at the Johnston Gymnasium on the campus of Eastern Maine Community College Monday night. In the girls game, Emma Johnson and Meredith Bean combined for 33 points as the Lady Patriots cruised to victory over the Royalettes.
Jonesport-Beals 73, Bangor Christian 49…..Seth Dorman and Tyler Alexander scored eight points each in the first quarter to spark the Bangor Christian Patriots to a 19-12 lead over the undefeated Jonesport-Beals Royals, but that would be the highlight of the night for the Patriots. The Royals regrouped and came out in the second quarter out scoring BC 20-6 to take a 32-25 half time lead.
Garrett Beal sparked the Royals in the second half scoring 16 of his game high 24 points, including nine in the third quarter as J-B put the game away with an 18-8 quarter for a 50-33 lead heading into the final period. G. Beal combined with Andrew Beal to score 15 points in the fourth quarter for a 23-16 score to close out the game.
Leading the Royals in scoring were Garrett Beal (24), Matt Alley (14), and Andrew Beal (13). Also scoring for Jonesport-Beals was Justin Alley (9), Harold Lyons (8), Tyler Turcotte (3), Demetri Monroe (2), and Sydney Look (2). The Royals had three 3-point baskets, one each by A. Beal, G. Beal, and Alley, and they went 8-12 from the free throw line.
Alexander topped Bangor Christian in scoring with 22 points. Other scorers included Ben Bragg (8), Dorman (8), Brad Wilcox (6), and Brandon Wilcox (5). The Patriots had eight 3-pointers, five by Alexander, two by Bragg, and one by Brandon Wilcox, and they went 7-16 from the charity stripe.

Bangor Christian 47, Jonesport-Beals 17…..Meredith Bean scored eight points in the opening quarter to give the Patriots a slim 11-9 lead over the Royals at the buzzer, but Emma Johnson took control of the game the next three quarters scoring 18 of her game high 21 points including eight in the second quarter when Bangor Christian out scored J-B 15-2 to take a 26-11 half time lead.
The Patriots went on a 7-3 run in the third quarter and led the Royalettes 35-17 heading into the final period. Johnson led five scorers in the fourth quarter with four points as the Patriots blanked J-B 12-0 to close out the game.
Leading Bangor Christian in scoring was Johnson (21), Bean (12), and Whitney Holmes (9). Also scoring was Katherine Bragg (4), Kristin Dillon (2), and Becca Harvey (2). The Patriots had five 3-point baskets, four by Johnson and one by Holmes. They did not have a foul shot attempt in the game.
Scoring for Jonesport-Beals was Brandee Beal (5), Morgan Merchant (4), Erin Crowley (2), Meagan Alley (2), Jessica Maclean (2), and Robbi Carver (1). The Royalettes went 7-11 from the free throw line.
