Unity women, men split doubleheader against Vermont Tech

Unity – Unity women had their first home game against Vermont Tech on Sunday earning their first home win. Unity’s Zoe Picanso scored a nice dipping shot in the first three minutes of the game. Unity continued to hold possession throughout most of the first half having many opportunities on net. In the 40th minute Vermont Tech nearly put one in forcing keeper Sierra Marchacos to make a diving save forcing the shot just wide of the net. Patriots Blow Out Vikings 30-7

Tom Brady didn’t put up big numbers. But with the Patriots defense forcing Vikings quarterback Matt Cassel into four interceptions, Brady’s mediocre performance didn’t matter. Things started out very shaky for New England. The Vikings worked the short passing game underneath, finding there tight ends and running backs, in a mismatch with the Patriots linebackers. Warriors cruise past Spruce Mountain girls soccer

Newport – Anna Smestad scored two goals and Austin Taylor added two assists as the Nokomis Warriors rolled past the Spruce Mountain (Jay, ME) Phoenix for a 5-2 win on Friday at Nokomis High School. Smestad put the Warriors on top 1-0 with 29:13 left in the first half, and Audrey Davis made it 2-0 just over seven minutes later. Taylor and Laura Freudenberger each had an assist on the goals. Unity College wins two in volleyball round robin

Unity – Unity College was the host of a womens volleyball round robin tournament with New Hampshire Technical Institute and UMaine-Presque Isle on Saturday, and the Rams came away with two wins. Unity finished 2-0 in the tournament, with NHTI going 1-1 and UMPI went 0-2. In the first game for the Rams, the Women’s Volleyball team faced off with conference rival, NHTI, in a non-conference match on Saturday and were able to get the win (3-1) against a very good NHTI team. NHTI win the first set (25-22) and Unity won the next 3 sets (25-22, 25-20, 25-19)....

J.T. Williams leads Mt Blue ground game in win over Broncos

Hampden – Mt. Blue’s J.T. Williams ran for 92 yards and scored three first half touchdowns to spark the Cougars to a 33-13 first half lead. Mt. Blue continued the rushing onslaught over the second half outscoring Hampden Academy 21-0 on their way to a 54-13 season opening win. Bangor – The EMCC Men’s soccer team looked to start their season off in the win column, but Unity senior Jacob Scoville had other plans. Scoville’s three goals was all Unity needed to help earn them their first win of the season. With only 9:00 min off the clock Unity quickly jumped out to a 1-0 advantage on Scoville’s first score of the afternoon, assisted by Neil D’Acierno. Basketball Officials Class

Northport, ME – Eastern Maine Board #111 of the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials is offering a Prospective Officials Class for any individuals, 18 years of age or older, who are interested in becoming certified basketball officials. Individuals living in Hancock, Knox, Penobscot, Piscataquis and Waldo Counties are eligible to take this class. The class will be held at Reed’s Brook Middle School, Room #164, in Hampden on Sundays & Wednesdays from 6 – 8:30 pm starting Sunday September 21st.
