3/4 girls take over Glenburn Rec tournament

Glenburn – Saturday morning at the Glenburn School, the Glenburn Rec hosted the second of it’s four travel basketball tournaments as teams from Bangor, Houlton, Dover, Ellsworth, and Old Town joined the host team Glenburn in the 3rd/4th grade girls tournament. In the first three games of the morning, it was Bangor defeating Glenburn 26-12, Foxcroft over Old Town 18-13, and Bangor nipped Houlton 37-36 through two overtimes and a sudden death. Oceanside nips Broncos in Unified Basketball contest

Hampden – Tuesday afternoon at Hampden Academy, the Oceanside Mariners overcame a third quarter deficit to pull out a 34-33 win over the Broncos in a Unified Basketball high school contest. The Maine Principles Association and Special Olympics Maine has partnered to develop and promote Unified Sports, and introduced the first ever MPA Unified Basketball season which began in January, 2015. According to the MPA’s website, Unified Basketball partners students with developmental disabilities (Unified Student Athlete) with students without developmental disabilities (Unified Student Partners) to train, compete, and represent their school. Brewer shines to win 2nd consecutive Glenburn 5/6 boys tournament

Glenburn – For the second straight year, the Brewer 5/6 boys went 5-0 for the week end to claim the 2015 Glenburn Rec championship with a 45-38 victory over a solid Bucksport team. Brewer also won the 2014 championship with a 5-0 record, giving this same group of boys a 10-0 record in two Glenburn tournaments. Brewer overcame a half time deficit to Glenburn in the semifinal game by out scoring the Chargers 24-9 over the second half. Glenburn Rec opens Travel League tournaments with 5/6 boys

Glenburn – Saturday morning at the Glenburn School, the Glenburn Rec opened the first of their four week-end travel league basketball tournaments starting with the 5th/6th grade boys. Teams in this years tournament are the host team Glenburn, Bangor, Old Town, defending champion Brewer, Gardiner, Bucksport, and two teams from Hampden. Through the first four games of the day, each of the winning teams cruised to their victory beginning with Glenburn defeating Bangor 35-24. Brewer knocked off Old Town 52-16, Hampden-Flannery cruised by Gardiner 40-22, and Bucksport breezed past Hampden-Henaghen 45-16. In game one, Glenburn led by five points...

Hermon opens tournament with quarterfinal upset over Medomak Valley

BANGOR—The Hermon Hawks dropped to 4-9 on the season when they traveled to Bar Harbor and lost by 18 to the powerful MDI Trojans on January 16th. Things have changed quite a bit for Hermon since that time. The 11th seeded Hawks opened up the 2015 Maine Principals’ Association basketball tournament with a 42-30 upset over third seeded Medomak Valley at the Cross Insurance Center on Friday evening. Bangor – The EMCC Men looked to rebound from their loss to UMPI last night against a one win Unity team, losers of their last twelve. This would be a must win for the Golden Eagles in their effort of making the YSCC Elite 8 Tournament. They are currently tied with UMA for the 8th and final spot in the tournament who have one game remaining against Hampshire.
