Hermon sweeps girls-boys doubleheader with John Bapst

BANGOR- Emi Higgins scored 19 points as the Hermon Hawks girls basketball team held off a late John Bapst rally to come away with a 63-47 Class B North victory on senior night and in the last game of the regular season on Thursday at the Cross Insurance Center. Hermon started very strong out of the gate as they built an early 13-4 lead only to see a John Bapst 9-0 surge tie the game. Bangor – Tuesday night at the Cross Insurance Center, the Washington Academy Raiders were handed all they could handle by the John Bapst boys and eventually came away with a 62-47 victory in a Class B North match up. After taking a 26-8 first quarter pounding, the Crusaders found the hot hands and intensity to out score the Raiders 22-8 in the second quarter to pull the game within four points at 34-30 heading into the half time break. Bangor – Crystal Bell, Madi Higgins, and Hannah Philippon all scored in double digits for John Bapst as the Lady Crusaders cruised to a 53-35 victory over the Washington Academy Raiders of East Machias in a Class B North game at the Cross Insurance Center on Tuesday night. Bapst took their first lead of the game (5-4) on a Hannah Philippon 3-point basket early in the first quarter, and an 8-0 run gave the Crusaders a 10-4 lead with 3:52 left in the period. ROCKLAND – Here is a photo view of Tuesday’s game at Oceanside East between the Mariners and Orono Unified teams. Oceanside managed a 48-32 win to bring their record to 2-1. Glenburn – At the Glenburn School on Sunday afternoon, three players scored in double digits for Brewer and they halted a late game rally to defeat the Messalonskee Dominators 61-53 to win the 2015-2016 Eastern Maine Basketball League travel championship to conclude a perfect undefeated season in the 7/8A girls division. Glenburn – Jackson Weatherby and Alex Tash each scored in double digits as the Lincoln 7/8B boys squeaked out a 47-46 victory over Holbrook to win the 2015-2016 Eastern Maine Basketball League championship at the Glenburn School on Sunday afternoon. Lincoln continued throughout the game to allow Holbrook to hang around, bu the Red Devils failed to capitalize as they struggled at the free throw line throughout the entire game right down to the closing seconds.
